Vazhaithandu Poriyal


VAZHAITHANDU PORIYAL



Ingredient



  • -       2 cups of banana stem, peeled and finely chopped
  • -    1 tsp Mustard seed
  • -    1 tsp urad dal(split)
  • -    2 green chillies finely chopped
  • -    1 teaspoon whole peppercorns coarsely pounded
  • -    1 spring curry leaves
  • -    ½ teaspoon turmeric powder (haldi)
  • -     Salt to taste  
  • -     Oil for cooking


How to make south Indian style vazhaithandu poriyal


  • To begin making the vazhaithandu poriyal recipe, first cut the banana stem in small pieces.  Pressure cook it in a cooker with a little salt for just one whistle and turns off the heat.      
  • Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan, add mustard seed and urad dal.  Allow the urad dal to roast until golden brown and crisp. 
  • Add the remaining ingredient, stir fry for a few seconds and turn off the heat.  Check the salt and adjust according to taste.
  • Serve the south Indian style vazhaithandu poriyal with steam rice and parupu rasam to enjoy your lunch/dinner.
